Yesterday was a big day. A historical day for many. A moment in history that caused most of us to stop, look up, and gaze at the eclipse.
April 8, 2024 was not just any solar eclipse. This was a TOTAL eclipse, or TOTALITY, that would stretch across North America from Mexico to Canada. Many would travel across states to areas that brought promise of the best views. They closed schools and others took off of work to witness this splendor.
Photographers pulled out the best gear because this moment, when the sun, moon and earth were aligned, had to be captured.
As I saw the pictures, social media post and listened my children’s experience at school there was a common hum. Underneath every pair of paper eclipse glasses, I witnessed the awe & wonder of what some eyes had never witnessed before.
There was an expectation of something beautiful would happen before their very eyes. And no matter how short the time, it was worth tilting our necks in unfamiliar positions to witness it.
There was wonder!
What would happen if we viewed the world with this kind of wonder every day?
If you’re a creative, maintaining a level curiosity expands our ability to create. We don’t settle for the obvious or what we see. Instead, we think about “what if”, and ignore the status quo. We look for moments of “wow”, not just for us but for those who will experience our work.
Even for those who may not consider themselves creatively inclined, opening opportunities for wonder can allow see through a new lens, new colors.
The eclipse allowed us to stand in wonder of the ultimate Creator. Only our Savior can turn day into night, back to day again in a matter of moments. We should stand in awe and reverence, and we did.
This God gave you every gift – ask Him to create wonder in using your gifts in greater, awe inspiring ways.
My hope is that we don’t lose the wonder of yesterday’s Totality, but take that wonder with us every day.
